In celebration of their annual festival of experimental and improvised music and sound art – scheduled for October 13–14, 2023 – High Desert Soundings presents improvisations featuring instrumentalists from the festival’s history: drummer Aaron Edgcomb, electronics operator Dominic Coles; and cellist and festival co-director TJ Borden.
Join us at the La MaMa Galleria for an improvised performance on Friday April 28th at 6pm ET, which will be followed by a performance by Dyad: Two bodies in close proximity by NUUM Collective in the CultureHub studio.
Dominic Coles is a composer & improviser based in Queens, NYC. His work investigates the interactions of place, personhood, and power as they are articulated in sound, attempting to complicate and intervene in these categories through specific acts of technologically mediated listening.
Aaron Edgcomb (he/they) is a composer, drummer, and percussionist from Reno, NV, currently living in Brooklyn, NY whose work appears in such contexts as improvisational music, jazz, “new music”, noise, and song. At the forefront of Aaron’s artistic practice is considering how music creates and changes ideology.
Tyler J. Borden is a cellist working with, in, and around the constraints of the cello. Formerly from Western NY, he is now based in Brooklyn NY, where he spends much of his time finding ways to exploit the strengths and failures of himself and his instrument.
