Join Laundromat Project Creative Action Fund awardee Ann Bennett and collaborators this Juneteenth for an interactive online conversation about the ‘Black Image’ as explored through digital archives and collections that are accessible to the public, even while many institutions are closed due to the global pandemic. During a one-hour discussion, participants will discuss strategies for how to research, preserve and share images of the African American / Black Diaspora experiences.
Inspired by the idea that our ‘visual lineage’ can be an empowering ‘launchpad’ for sharing our own authentic stories, Lineage Launchpad will bring together veteran documentary producer and researcher, Ann Bennett, (film credits include: Always in Season, Through A Lens Darkly, Nas: Time Is Illmatic, Soul Food Junkies, Citizen King, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Africans in America); who will be joined by Emmy Award-winning archival producer, educator and media librarian, Michele McKenzie, who has devoted her career to the research, preservation and curation of film, television and photography collections; and (schedule permitting) renowned visual artist Marilyn Nance, who has produced photographs of unique moments in the cultural history of the U.S. and the African Diaspora, and possesses an archive of images of late 20th century African American life.
