RE–FEST 2022

Re–Fest Opening

Virtual Venue
Monday, March 14, 2022
8pm ET / 5pm PT
Free / Donations Welcome

Join us for the opening of Re–Fest 2022 in our Virtual Venue, a custom built 3D environment that features a virtual gallery of video art installed by DigiAna Group, a collaborative drawing room, and a performance space.

The evening will include sets by DJ Josuel and MDN along with a conversation by ITP’s Adjacent Journal exploring what role do rituals play today and how can they enable us to heal and reconnect after a time of societal upheaval. From rituals of care to rituals of code, Adjacent managing editors Divya Mehra and Lucas Wozniak will explore these questions with contributors Rosalie Yu, Smita Sen, and Iza Paez.

Access coordinators will be present in the Virtual Venue, which will feature an accompanying Zoom support room. Please contact access@culturehub.org for any access questions or further needs.

MDN or Mark DeNardo (they/them) is a digital artist and musician, commonly associated with strings, small spells, and singing. Lately, their work has been bound to shapes, waves, and beats made in the service of conjured mathematical automata. You can find them on IG, Soundcloud, Github, and in most digital wells, as @markdenardo. Their performance, 3.14, is a meditation on the number π or Pi, performed on Pi Day, demonstrating creative use of Pi and Euclidean math as live coding performance. π is called upon to conjure the diameter and area of a circle. As we are drawing new lines, let’s include more of ourselves, and build new structures to share with others.
Josuel is a dance and electronic music DJ from New York City. A member of the 2020 class of Forbes 30 under 30, Josuel's blend of Latin-inspired beats melded with pop, rock, and soul has reached clubs and festivals from the United States to Mexico and Brazil. He is the co-founder of the dance DJ group Dos Dominicans and is the host of the weekly Twitch show, the Spontaneous Room. His corporate clients include Hugo Boss, Nordstrom, and Norwegian Cruise Lines.
ADJACENT is an online journal of emerging media published by the Interactive Telecommunications Program of New York University (often just called ITP). Our mission is to share research, analysis, and opinion from and for the diverse creators that are exploring the contemporary moment. ITP is ruthlessly interdisciplinary and unfailingly experimental, and we aim for ADJACENT to be as well.

Image Description: A snapshot of the Re-Fest 2022 virtual gallery and performance space from an expansive fly-out perspective. 3 inverted pyramids containing the 3 different virtual spaces float above a square and angular yellow terrain simulation. All components float over a hazy background gradient of grayish-brown mountains extending to a cloudy yet bright sky.
