In this workshop, participants will create their own duets with their phones, exploring the subject-hood of the dancer through self-recorded footage. This exploration, which is part of an ongoing video series by Alexsa Durrans, attempts to shift awareness to the ways bodies, technologies, and spaces are in ecology together. 

Join us in-person at CultureHub LA for this hour-long workshop led by Alexsa Durrans. Participants should bring their own phones and be ready to move.

About Tracing: The ongoing video series explores the subject-hood of the dancer through self-recorded footage on their phone’s camera. Documenting the dancing while the dancing is occurring, this series re-centralizes body points in relationship to place. Familiarize viewership of dancing on camera is skewed with pans and angles that shift how the body is seen. 

The public is invited to studio hours to participate in the exercise of tracing and recording their own duets with their phone. As a way of stamping in a collective archive. As a way of actuating the individual autonomy of tracing one's body in space. As an attempt to shift awareness to the ways bodies, technologies and spaces are in ecology together.
