The Last Gatekeeper is an insurgent Afro-futurist, Queer/same-gender loving (SGL) musical theater experience, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Drawing inspiration from West African shaman and scholar, Malidoma Somé, the musical explores the concept of the gatekeepers: individuals who express themselves as Queer/SGL and balance the portals between the physical and spiritual realms, restoring harmony on Earth.
Beyond the audience's immersion in a pivotal scene in the protagonist's heroic journey, CultureHub Resident Artist Germono Toussaint will explore the ways XR technology can intensify the impact of spiritual storytelling and provide audiences with an experiential understanding of spiritual technology within the theatrical context.
The workshop showing will be followed by a guided conversation with Brisa Areli Muñoz (Artistic Director of Musical Theatre Factory), Rev. Dr. Mikael Elam (Executive Director of The Gatekeepers Collective) Dr. John-Martin Green, and Germono Toussaint.
