‘From Mao to Me: Generations of Books’ is an installation series exploring China’s profound societal and psychological upheavals over the past decades, changes poetically compared to four centuries of European evolution by author Yu Hua.

I will conduct a public book reading using real-time and deepfake technology to traverse history through three books, narrated by a former Chinese nuclear facility worker, a romantic medical student, and a LA-based Chinese immigrant artist. This work captures the intense scale of change and the deep disparities within the nation, portraying dramatic shifts in landscape and ideology alongside the oscillating personal and collective psyches.
