Mattie Barber-Bockelman

Mattie Barber-Bockelman is the Producing Director of CultureHub in New York City. She works collaboratively with the CultureHub team to plan and carry out all programmatic initiatives including Re-Fest, the Residency Program, Experiments in Digital Storytelling, and CoLab. She hosted and developed the online performance series produced by La MaMa and CultureHub Downtown Variety, which began as a response to the pandemic on March 20, 2020 and evolved into an interdisciplinary and international series that has showcased approximately 200 artists in 12 countries.
As a member of La MaMa’s Great Jones Repertory Company, Mattie has performed in Balkan Bordello as Elektra in international tours in Kosovo, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, and New York (2021-2022) and The Trojan Women as Helen and Andromache directed by Andrei Serban and written by Elizabeth Swados at La MaMa with an international cast from Cambodia, Guatemala, and Kosovo (2019). She wrote and performed in Ride the Wave (2023) at The VORTEX in Austin, TX. She has also performed at Boston Playwrights Theatre, the Park Avenue Armory, Theater for the New City, WOW Café, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, and Triskelion Arts. She has trained with Double Edge Theatre, LAByrinth Theatre, Michael Chekhov School, Strasberg Institute, and La MaMa Umbria’s Symposium on Theater for Social Change and Community Engagement with Belarus Free Theatre. She studied Theatre and Human Rights at Connecticut College where she received awards for Theatre and Activism and Feminist Collective Action.
