Remote Access: GlitchRealm
April 23, 2021
Presented by CultureHub
Remote Access: GlitchRealm is a virtual dance party centering disability nightlife and access magic organized by CultureHub Resident Artist Yo-Yo Lin and Kevin Gotkin. Featuring a 3D virtual dance club and lounge, time-bending performances, live DJ sets, installations, real-time captions, audio description, ASL, sound description and access doulas, and of course, karaoke. Blurring the lines between URL/ IRL, GlitchRealm invites us to find joy in the glitches and lags of remote community and embodiment through the Internet.
There were two portals to the GlitchRealm:
GlitchRealm 3D is a virtual party and lounge space that lives on the computer browser through the Arium 3D meeting platform. Partygoers use their keyboard to move their avatar around the party space from the dance floor to the lounge.
Zooming into GlitchRealm used the Zoom meeting platform where a live video stream of the party was available. Similar to previous Remote Access parties with performances spotlit throughout the night, there was a chatbox, live captions, ASL, and audio descriptions.
Remote Access: GlitchRealm was developed within the CultureHub Residency Program and presented as a part of Re-Fest 2021.
