Downtown Variety: Take 21

CultureHub and La MaMa present the 21st edition of Downtown Variety, bringing La MaMa’s 1960s café aesthetic to a virtual platform, linking artists and audiences in real time across distance. In this edition, past Downtown Variety performers Shauna Davis, Stacy Dawson Stearns, and John Maria Gutierrez team up with creative technologists, producers, and writers to explore rituals for our time in a hybrid medium.
Downtown Variety: Take 21 was produced from CultureHub’s two studio locations in New York and Los Angeles. There was an in-person audience in NYC and an online audience.
Downtown Variety is produced within CultureHub and La MaMa’s Experiments in Digital Storytelling program, which incubates story-driven artworks that push the boundaries of artistic forms. Downtown Variety is powered by LiveLab, a browser-based media-router for collaborative performance developed by CultureHub.
